6 Big Improvements Made on the 2020 Jeep Wrangler

Freedom and independence are the driving forces behind America. It is also a sentiment echoed in the 2020 Jeep Wrangler. This year’s models stay true to its off-road roots while delivering enhancements that build on the capabilities and features that Wrangler is known for. If you’re considering a new 2020 Jeep, here are some of the updates that improve the iconic American ride.

1. EcoDiesel V6

The big story of 2020 is the addition of a 3.0L EcoDiesel V6 engine that roars to life, delivering impressive power. Whether you want rapid off-the-line acceleration on pavement or superior off-road performance, this year’s Wrangler doesn’t disappoint. Increased powertrain efficiency helps improve fuel economy. Expect about 500 miles on the full 18.3-gallon tank.

2. eTorque Assist

A new option for the 2019 Wrangler and carried over into the 2020 model, the electric-assisted turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine makes it a mild-hybrid vehicle. The eTorque unit delivers energy to a battery pack that converts 48-volt current to 12 volts, enabling the 2020 Wrangler to charge the conventional battery and power accessories. The battery also recharges by capturing energy created during braking and deceleration.

With more torque than a standard engine, its performance and acceleration are similar to the 3.6 liter V6, despite having a bit less horsepower. This option delivers better fuel economy without sacrificing power or capability.

3. Advanced Safety Group Addition

Jeep has been behind the curve when it comes to including safety features in its traditionally-styled vehicles. In 2020, that changes. Available in all models except the Sport, the Active Safety Group has a blindspot monitoring system, rear parking sensors and LED taillights. The Advanced Safety Group has these features as well as:

Forward-collision warning with automatic braking

Park assist system

Automatic high beams

Adaptive cruise control

Rear Cross Path Detection

4. 2020 Jeep Wrangler Sport Options

One of the most budget-friendly 2020 Wrangler options, the Sport and Sport S both carry the traditional Jeep style, without the high-end options. Trim packages include air conditioning, power windows and locks, and leather-covered steering. When it comes to performance, options include:

Turbocharged 270-hp 2.0 liter engine

Above-average torque at 295 lb-ft

Automatic eight-speed transmission

Technology package with touch screen infotainment system

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

The turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid delivers 26 mpg, which is very different from the gas-guzzling Jeep is known for.

5. 2020 Jeep Wrangler Willys

Paying tribute to Jeep’s World War II origins, the Willys special edition is designed for off-roading. The mechanical upgrades include:

Shocks and rock rails borrowed from Rubicon

Heavy-duty brakes,

32-inch mud-terrain tires by Firestone

Limited-slip rear differential

LED headlights and fog lights

The updated features ensure superior off-road maneuvering. This limited-edition model is available in 10 colors, has the classic Willys script on the hood, a glossy black grille and black 17-inch wheels with gray print.

6. 2020 Black and Tan Jeep Wrangler

Focusing more on the look and feel than performance, the Black and Tan sports a tan premium soft top, coordinating Heritage Tan cloth seats and an instrument panel painted Wizard Black. Additional design features include:

17” Machine Granite Wheels

All-terrain tires

Side steps

Low gloss badging

The Technology Group, which is an option on other models, comes standard here. The dual-zone climate control, 7.0-inch driver’s display screen, and Uconnect infotainment system give the Black and Tan a technology boost to go with the updated style. It’s available in all 11 Wrangler color options.
