Ram 1500 Truck Named 2020 Green Truck of the Year
Versatile and capable, the 2020 Ram Truck was named Green Truck of the Year for the second year in a row. Redesigned with sleek lines in 2019, the big news for this year is the improved EcoDiesel V-6. With a more efficient turbocharger, improved cylinder-head breathing and lighter block, it delivers increased torque and horsepower for best-in-class performance.
The Green Truck of the Year is awarded by Green Car Journal editors. They review all of the potential U.S. truck models considering environmental aspects as well as traditional criteria, such as:
Capability
Safety
Style
Value
VersatilityThe winner is chosen from five finalists selected by the Green Truck of the Year jury, made up of Green Car Journal staff and automotive experts. The outstanding towing rating, smooth ride, and refined interior give it a high score in all-around capability and comfort.
V-6 EcoDiesel Engine
The introduction of the 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6 in 2014 was the first version of the EcoDiesel engine. Today’s third-generation iteration is a ground-up redesign, with more than 80% of its parts brand new for 2020 including:
Low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system
Thinner piston rings for less friction
New combustion system, intake ports, and turbocharger
These changes help meet the targets for NVH improvements, efficiency and performance. The advantage delivered by the diesel torque combined with a locked rear differential and four-low enables you to power through steep, slippery conditions off-road.
The 480 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm is a nearly 15% increase from the last EcoDiesel V-6. At 3,600 RPM, the horsepower increases to 260, an 8% improvement. The power boost combined with the eight-speed automatic transmission help it handles high-torque applications. Tasks such as heavy-duty trailer hauling and long, winding paved mountain climbs are managed with ease. If you’re looking for a full-size pickup that’s fuel-efficient with superior range, look no further than the 2020 Ram. The available 33-gallon tank delivers a driving range that surpasses 1,000 miles.
eTorque Mild-Hybrid
Towing can be stressful, especially if you have a loose rear and bouncy back-end. The optional air suspension system has a self-leveling feature combined with trailer-length-detecting blind-spot monitors that help to keep the ride smooth while isolating the back. Low torque and eight-speed automatic transmission make towing up to 11,610 pounds from the rear bumper and 2,040 pounds in the bed a breeze.
Ram truck options include an upgrade to the 5.7-liter HEMI for 395-horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. You get the classic HEMI power with improved fuel economy. Towing capacity also increases to 12,560 pounds.
Superior Performance
The new 2020 Ram turbocharged 3.0-liter EcoDiesel delivers greater fuel economy, and low levels of NVH, to meet the demands of Ram 1500 owners. Ram also sets a high bar for the competition. It outperforms other brands in several categories, including:
Towing capacity exceeding 35,000 lbs
Segment first 1,000 lb-ft of torque
Payload of 7,680 lbs
Best ride and handling
Most luxurious
Highest owner loyalty of any half-ton pickup
